Despite their filigree system components, BESISTA® products offer the above-average safety margins that are essential for sustainable construction. The stringent safety inspections in our own manufacturing department include multiple checks on incoming goods, fabrication and the end product.
The inspection hole in the rod anchors, which is unique to BESISTA®, permits 100% inspection of the thread screw-in depth. Hence, unlike with other systems, no cover sleeves are needed. (Design protected)
The specially designed and patented internal straps on the BESISTA® rod anchors allow axial offsets of up to 2°. This largely prevents transverse stresses. Other major benefits for installation include the accommodation of metal tolerances and the protection of coatings.
BESISTA® rod anchors are made of top-grade, ductile EN-GJS-400-18-LT spheroidal graphite cast iron, with guaranteed notched impact toughness at -20°C. BESISTA® does not use cast steel which – unlike rolled steel – is prone to cracking during casting on account of its extremely high shrinkage. See also “Basic knowledge” – “Spheroidal graphite cast iron or cast steel?”
Our tension rods are made of S540N, an extra-high-quality, BESISTA®-modified S460N fine-grained structural steel, with a guaranteed yield strength of 540 N/mm².
The wrench flats on both the tension rods and on the BESISTA® rod anchors are an additional safety feature: by permitting distortion-free tensioning of the tension rods, they allow a controlled build-up of force.
If customers order hot-dip galvanized rod systems from BESISTA®, all system parts – including associated rod threads – are supplied with a durable hot-dip galvanized finish. This is particularly crucial for outdoor applications. By virtue of our long track record in the manufacture of hot-dip galvanized rod threads, we won the German Galvanizers’ Award for Hot-Dip Galvanizing as early as 1991 and 1995. With BESISTA® products, no encapsulation or sealing – with the resulting uncontrollable thread sections – is necessary. If “hot-dip galvanized” is specified, the client is also entitled to insist on hot-dip galvanized rod threads. For further details, see “Basic knowledge” – “About hot-dip galvanized rod threads”.
For additional safety as well as sustainable performance through corrosion protection, the internal threads of BESISTA rod anchors are about 40% longer than necessary. Millions of threads, successfully in use since 1987, are a further testament to our safety philosophy.
All BESISTA® rod systems have been granted a European Technical Approval (ETA) by the German Institute for Construction Technology (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik; DIBt) in Berlin. For further details, see MENU point “Approvals”.
CE certification is performed by the Materials Testing Institute (MPA) at Stuttgart University. This distinguished governmental certification body (notified body) enjoys an excellent international reputation and is well-equipped for the certification of construction products. The MPA monitors, inspects and certifies BESISTA®’s safety systems and manufacturing processes through regular external surveillance and component tests. For further details, see MENU point “Certificates”.
The type stress analysis was checked by the structural engineering control authority (Prüfamt für Baustatik) in Stuttgart. For further details, see MENU point “Type stress analysis”.
